1) It's only a small thing, but can you fix: http://screencast.com/t/DuojYNIlV3 >> notice that in Firefox the spacing between the bottom of the home page photo and the drop down is ideal? Then in Explorer, there's a larger gap? Same with the gap under "In the Spotlight"?

2) FOR ONLY NOVELS, please make a note about how the: Search Meta/ terms ("Huck Finn" , common misspelling) etc.

3) Average the ages and grades dynamically? For the below figures, use the following formula

Score Grade
1 5 to 6
2 8
3 9 to 10
4 4 to 5
5 6
6 6
7 7
8 7

Formula:

Avg. Grade Level = [(5+6)/2 + 8 + (9+10)/2 + (4+5)/2 + 6 + 6 + 7 + 7]/n

Avg. = [5.5 + 8 + 9.5 + 4.5 + 6 + 6 + 7 + 7]/8
Avg. = 53.5/8
Avg = 6.68

Which raises the question, should this be a straight avg or a weighted avg? What's easier for you? Either way as long as we indicated it.

I'm not sure that I know what weighted vs straight average is?

The same formula for ages

5?) Already done? >> In the copyright database, please make sure that authors can not be duplicated. Could you merge the ones that are doubled now?

if you enter a duplicate author in copyrights, it will use that pre-existing author and will not create a new one ... the name must match exactly.

DONE - more coming

Question:

can you tell me more about 2 things that you mentioned that you did for other clients?

Both of these functions are on www.ExactEvents.com

1) social network
This started with a script that he purchased and I have modified it a lot. It is locked to work only on his domain, so we can only use it as a template...

2) ad serving?
He uses a program called phpAdsNews to manage his banner ads.

you have the scripts or at least know how to use them? Public sites?

MOVED TO THE FUTURE

In the text record page, can you automatically pull the readability score from the readability grid????

Also, this brings up another tweak: can you move the "weight" column next to the "Reading Level" column? They go together.

New eText fields >>

  • Also include two or three spots for relevent SearchLIT theme pages or SL "Articles" as well (URLs?) On the etext record page for themes. Hosted articles. Online chats and that type of feature that is not on a third party site.
do you just want urls? link text? rollovers? do you want these on all etext types? will take some time to implement across all types.

  • NOVELS done (above) Search Meta/ terms (for example, we want a search on "Huck Finn" to be successful - maybe also allow for common misspelling, etc)
this will be a larger project, likely several hours. can we push to a later list?

need to add a drop down menu to descibe all the tests for readability - can you integrate with a "about" link in the "add a new methodology" in CP? Otherwise., let's just add a link to a page (that I will make) to "About Readability Scores.

Wait on this. Entering a summary should eliminate this problem. > Move up and streamline "talk to us" box - see print outs. I can't enter tags: http://www.searchlit.org/copyright/1613.php
Factor into aggregrated reviews feature.

5) Coming soon (I will create the code) for you to add to the footer: chained menu
I would like to incorporate a chained menu in footer (taking out a bunch of links?) - incorporate talk to us, an this page and search types. I will do the code you just place it in the footer.
is this code ready? NO, THIS WILL BE MOVED

From copyright book, see same authors on "Cole" give me many other authors starting with Cole. Change?
not sure how you clicking from a copyrighted book to an author search... ? See eTexts with the same author example > Start on http://www.searchlit.org/copyright/1268.php and click on see "same authors" to get http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/results.php?search_type=All&search_author=Cole&search_grade_1=-&search_grade_2=-

this is tied to the larger copyrights/authors issues... i can either remove the the 'same authors' link for now, or leave it how it is. Leave it and we will move to future

Make for grade or reading level- http://www.searchlit.org/students/did-you-know.php

Any chance of of making the various panes managed on the existing home page manager in the CP?
could do this, but can we put in a later list of todo items?

If a copyright author has a biography (Author's CP) can it be linked? See "Sendak".
on eLibrary:
if there are a few specific authors that you'd like to link, i can program it in, otherwise i'd like to wait until we rework the authors/copyright authors setup
--

Ideally, have a seperate STUDENTS nav (and/or in The Spotlight) for each grade but at least for beginning reader, middle and strong. Note: use old CP functions for index page.

MWS fix?

For plays, stories, etc.....
Can you add a text field for a summary. It could be a couple hundred words. Have option to "read more" with a field for a URL to continue. Also a field with "source name" + URL field as well. >> display up at the top if the field is filled in. Putting it under the title and author, for example, will help avoid problems like: http://www.searchlit.org/copyright/1129.php

Do you know how to make a control to have only one open at a time? This will save space.

Check for spacing consistency between sections on the index page(s)(see print out) - not sure where this problem is... all index page spacing looks good on my end. screencast

old fix: All copyright books are on the timeline, which is perfect, but they all have bad links. Look at Good Night Moon on 1984
When looking at --http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/tagview.php?tag=caldecott-- (and other tag clouds) I wonder if we can use a verticle line instead of a comma. | < this character.-
the readability CP needs the weight fields to accept decimal points
if your weights don't equal 100, an error message will display in the admin
At the top or bottom, can you add a "back to text record" link (I know the title is linked, but I fear that it's not obvious to the users)
Let's get rid of Sir Chee in the left nav. Let's remove image and add a blank to allow the header's text to be adjusted. Change CP section from "Sir Chee's Message" to bottom left nav message. The text in that area is already CP controlled.

  • this is setup. in the 'right rail' section of the admin
1) -(I thought) You changed the "starting reading..." to "Find at local library" (maybe in copyright novels) . I don't see this in stories -
    • -i'm a little confused. you just want the copyrighted etexts to say 'find at local library', right? or you want all etexts to say this?-
    • maybe I was drunk? Yeah, just copyrighted texts.
2) http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/readability.php?jump_id=C1123 i see "ure book" above footer in Explorer. On http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/readability.php?jump_id=N439 "notes" is above footer
i think i've resolved this so it should not be an issue anywhere on the site.

Did we loose the logo linked to the home page on every page?

6) Look at http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/readability.php?jump_id=N434 notice the grade range for SMOG, it's 11 to 8. The CP is only 11. Most grades are only one number in the CP, but a range is showing up. I don't mind when it goes up by one, but now backwards such as 11 to 8. Fix? this is fixed

Hmmm. If didn't work for me. It's not a big deal. is is possible to "save" the entries if the readability weights do no equal 100? If it doesn't the form is erased. - not sure what you're saying here. i went through and added a test set. then i entered invalid weights and tripped the error - i clicked the link ('evaluate score weights') and it took me back to the weights screen, and displayed all the correct score names.

3) Make "If you liked this, you'll also like: " orange headered

Try this, go to http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/browsedownloads.php and filter the download list by grades. The next browse list are the lesson plans. Please adjust browse lists.
i fixed the plays also. i think the others are correct.
I just tryed entering a tag on a Novel. It didn't accept and booted me to the eLibrary index page.

I dig the summary (notes) for the copyright books. Do the same for novels and we can wait on the other types for future benchmarks
this is now fully functional for novels

http://www.searchlit.org/elibrary/browsecopyrights.php
it's included in the dropdown menu on the elibrary index page.

In Firefox, the eLibrary index page doesn't include "copyrights" in the pull down menu for me. Weird!?
is this still an issue? No, did you need to do something?
no, i don't think i changed anything...

OLD problem: I was entering information for http://www.searchlit.org/novels/614.php - when I changed the eText URL, the page was rewritten but the header are still the pale orange color. However, when I rewrite the page, it becomes the right color orange. Can it fix that when rewritting after a change?

  • From print-outs .... Search results spacing - The text in columns sometimes wrap to a second line. Can you limit the characters to avoid this?
  • Resources - bigger section headers? See print out
  • n the copyright CP, can you help the navigation with a line and letter enabling a jump to that letter?

Home page design options:

Because I feel that it may take too long, we can postpone the fancy stuff. Plus, it's better to have these things CP controlled and using Java may complicate matters?

+ option, can we add a border around the section? Very thin, section colored boxes?
++) What are the chances that we can do this on the home page's right side? http://www.searchlit.org/wayne/accord/Basic.html Keep in mind that we need 4 sections.
we can come up with alteratives if tough.>>>> One easy alterative to consider, for time sake, what if we added our little +/ - code (See more) under each section? Any way of making sure that only one is expanded at a time?

++ Another option for the accordion: http://stickmanlabs.com/2007/09/18/accordion-v20-released/

+) Rotating photos. Controlled with code (see onpanelclick(target) event) such as : http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/stepcarousel_suppliment3.htm
